Saturday 2/13

4th Race at Santa Anita

Put the balance show on Blind Luck

Small field, good horse, 1/2 morning line

Seems like a safe show play - I hope!!

Good Luck to all

2/2 with 2 easy wins

Happy so far, the entry ran 1st and 2nd with the 2nd horse over the 3rd by 13 lengths.

Another $2.10 payout, but this pick was probably better than the first.

$11,025 balance now

2nd Play Goes Saturday January 16th

The third race at Aqueduct on Saturday the 16th is the $65,000 Evening Attire.

If (AND ONLY IF) both parts of the entry run I'll play them for SHOW ONLY.

The entry is Understatement and Well Positioned

Understatement is a good inner horse and Well Positioned had a good last race (winning by a bunch). I respect Ah Day, but the rest of the field (only a 6 horse field) looks poor for a $65K race.

Weather should be okay.

All $10,500 in the account for show on the Entry. Good Luck!

Show Payoff: $2.10
Old Balance: $10,000
New Balance: $10,500

First Bridgejumper Goes Today 1/6/10

4th Race at Aqueduct: #7 Pretty Cozzy

Is she a perfect bridgejumper, no. But, she has 2 very strong second place finishes against better horses. Best rider at the track, a good trainer as well.

Hope I get off to a 1/1 start, we shall see.

No conditions on playing this horse, if she runs the 'bet' is a go.

Qualities of a good bridgejumping candidate

1) Easily the best horse in the race
2) Part of an entry, especially when the 2nd horse is one of the best 3 in the race also
3) Decent post
4) Good jockey, especially with favorites
5) Solid trainer
6) Poor competition
7) Horse that has raced in the last 30 days
8) No major changes from the previous races in terms of class, distance, weather, etc...
9) Horse that will be on or near the lead, but not part of a speed duel
10) Not a tiny track (strange things happen)

I'll expand on these some as the blog goes on, I might even add a few.

2010 Year of the 20 Bridgejumper picks challenge

In 2010, with at least 5 hours notice each time, I will attempt to make 20 very save show plays in horse racing. These picks should generally return $2.10 or maybe $2.20 to show.

It is a tough way to make money at the ponies, but worth a fun try.

The mythical bankroll is $10,000 - we will see where it is at the end of 2010, could very well be $0, but I hope to double it.

Please follow along and feel free to comment.
